Dr. Wasse is a distinguished physician, scientist and educator with over 20 years of experience. She is the Interim Chair and Meuhrcke Family Professor of the Deparment of Medicine, Chief of Nephrology and Director of Interventional Nephrology. Upon joining RUSH in 2016, she developed the Interventional Nephrology Program and founded and directed the multidisciplinary Post-COVID Clinic in response to the pandemic. Prior to joining RUSH, she directed the interventional nephrology programs at Emory University and Northwestern University.
Dr. Wasse’s research focuses on characterizing the key mechanisms, pathways and genes involved in arteriovenous dialysis access dysfunction. Her scientific work as principal investigator has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
As a highly respected and internationally renowned interventional nephrologist, Dr. Wasse has held many national leadership and committee roles, including serving as the first female president of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology from 2018 to 2020, and regularly serving as a scientific symposium speaker and moderator. She earned her medical degree and Masters in Public Health from the University of Washington in Seattle.
As a dedicated educator, she has also mentored and taught numerous fellows, residents, and medical students, and is an alumnus of the Hedwig van Amerigen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program.
