Robert Shahverdyan, MD, is a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon based in Hamburg, Germany. For over seven years, he served as
the Head of the Vascular (Hemodialysis) Access Center at the Asklepios Clinic Barmbek in Hamburg, Germany. During his tenure, he
performed a wide range of open and endovascular Hemodialysis Access procedures, utilizing many of the available innovative devices
and techniques for creating and preserving vascular accesses. Notably, he was the first physician worldwide to adapt both
endovascular AV-Fistula creation procedures and possesses extensive experience with these techniques in Europe and worldwide.
Additionally, he was the first to perform the first-in-human cases of the next-generation Velocity® pAVF system. Furthermore, he has
the most comprehensive experience with the anastomotic external support device for AV-Fistula creation.
Since April 2025, Dr. Shahverdyan has assumed the role of a co-founder and head of Vascular Access Medicine at Petridis Vascular
Institute in Hamburg, Germany. This institute represents Germany’s first fully outpatient, dedicated Vascular Access practice. Dr.
Shahverdyan holds a keen interest in innovations and patient outcomes in the field of vascular access. He has authored and reviewed
numerous significant peer-reviewed publications on vascular access and serves as an invited faculty member at various national and
international conferences focused on hemodialysis vascular access. Dr. Shahverdyan is a member of the Vascular Access Society of
Americas (VASA), a board member of the Vascular Access Society (VAS), and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of
Vascular Access (JVA). He also holds the position of Co-Director of the European Vascular Course (EVC) - Vascular Access Course
since 2022 and serves as the Founder and Director of the Hamburg Dialysis Access Symposium since 2018. Furthermore, he is a
member of the writhing committee for the European Society of Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Access Guidelines.
